Course offerings > THE UNCHARTED BODY. NIEUW!! >

There is a hidden and invisible world inside our bodies, which runs on energy. Within our every cell lives mitochondria, power generators with an electric current strong enough to create a spark of molecular energy. The mitochondria ‘donate’ these power molecules to each of our cells, which in turn use them to generate further electricity to drive their machinery.

The electricity doesn’t stop there. It organises and powers the brain and heart. It moves our muscles and bowels and pulses within each nerve. It lies delicately balanced across the membranes of the liver, spleen, and kidney, lubricating their functions and driving their mechanisms. It moves in channels in the body and concentrates in nodes. Electricity is the energy of our lives.

When it goes wrong it can cause chaos, catastrophe, and even death. It can rebel, or lie silent and stagnant. It can drive cells mad and turn them cancerous, make organs malfunction, or make us cry out in pain. Trying to make sense of the human body without understanding this primal energy, and the huge intelligence that drives it, would be like looking inside an unplugged computer and believing you can decipher it.

The Uncharted Body will open that Universe to you showing you how to read it, understand it, and correct it; bringing the world of Chinese medicine, blinking, into the 21st century. It is the body re-described and re-charted from the bottom up, through a world of energy rather than a mechanistic description of parts; and a window into the mysterious world of qi (pronounced ‘chi’) that has governed acupuncture practice for millenia.

Dr Daniel Keown MD MCEM Lic Ac became interested in Chinese medicine when hearing from his octogenarian grandmother about her travelling around China. In 1998 he qualified in medicine from Manchester University, England and then obtained a degree in Acupuncture from The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in 2008.

He continues to practice Western medicine having passed the membership exams of the College of Emergency Medicine (MCEM) in 2014. His enduring aim is to re-establish acupuncture and Qi at the forefront of medicine in the West. To this aim he published The Spark In The Machine in 2014 which shows how the principles of Chinese medicine can be fully explained with a deeper understanding of how the human body works, an understanding that necessitates a semi-mystical force at work ie Qi.

He lives in Kent, England, with his wife and two children, and still searches for the elusive perfect wave.

Dr Daniel Keown has been a practicing Western doctor for over twenty years having worked mainly in Emergency medicine but also as a registrar in general surgery and internal medicine. He has full registration with the GMC and has passed membership exams to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

Dr Keown is incredibly passionate about the power of acupuncture to get people healthy and keep them healthy , and is only one of a few doctors in the world who are dual qualified in Eastern and Western medicine.
His studies have also taken him to China where he has been a student alongside the late Dr Wang Ju-Yi (pictured) at the Institute of Channel Diagnosis in Beijing.

His book 'The Spark In The Machine' has been the Amazon best-seller in Acupuncture for the last three years the best and he lectures internationally on Chinese medicine.
Dr Keown's philosophy on health is that Western medicine excels at life-threatening illness but that Chinese medicine is superior at getting and staying healthy.
