 Twee belangrijke topics uit de dagelijkse praktijk

 1. Geriatrics in Chinese Medicine

The proportion of elderly people in relation to the general population is set to grow steeply in the next years. Therefore a large proportion of our patients will be elderly people. Chinese medicine has dedicated great attention to the problems of aging and to how to slow down the aging process. Indeed, large parts of the Nei Jing are about Anourishing life@ (yang sheng), i.e. how to slow down aging and live healthily into old age. The seminar will discuss the pathology of the elderly and the treatment of some of diseases of old age, including Chest Bi (coronary heart disease), stroke and hypertension with both herbal medicine and acupuncture.

2. The treatment of menopausal problems with chinese medicine

Menopausal problems are very common in the patients we see and such that they support a huge drug industry with mixed results at best. The research on the use of hormones to treat menopausal problems is confusing at best and there are many reports of serious adverse consequences from the use of hormones.
Chinese medicine has diagnosed and treated menopausal problems from very early times: the first chapter of the Su Wen already talks about the decline of Jing associated with aging and its consequences. Chinese medicine provides a safe and effective treatment of menopausal problems.
This lecture will present the pathology and treatment by pattern of menopausal problems with both acupuncture and herbal remedies.
